English Show@Colourful Guizhou : Confucius Academy

Hello, everyone.I'm Zhou Aqing, a student from School of Foreign Languages, Guizhou Institute of Technology.Today, I will introduce the Confucius Academy, one of the famous scenic spots in Guizhou to you from four aspects. Now, let's move to part one.

Part 1 The Origin and Address of Confucius Academy

Construction of the Guiyang Confucius Academy was completed in September 2012. It adheres to the principles of “allowing the past to serve the present, and passing down and teaching traditions”, and establishes a base to inherit and promote Confucianism and to teach and start a new style in the society. The Confucius Academy neighbors on the Mountain Dajiang to the east, Huaxi River to the west, and offers a bird’s-eye view of the Ten-li Strand.

Part 2 Brief Information about Confucius

Confucius, the ancient Chinese sage and philosopher, passed away more than 2500 years ago, but his virtue will last forever. We cannot hear his voice, but we can still cherish his teachings. The Confucius Academy shoulders major tasks, and continues to study the truth behind Confucius’ words. It bears the functions of study, research, education and cultural promotion. It is an academy of Confucianism, rather than a

temple. It promotes Chinese culture by means of improving traditional methods

while creating new, innovative ones. It serves as a renaissance of Confucian culture

rather than a nostalgic portrayal of ancient teachings.

“Virtue is the foundation of one’s career”.

The Confucius Academy takes on the responsibilities of exploring and elucidating the ideological values of traditional Chinese culture, promoting moral and cultural qualities, and maintaining and increasing the influence of Chinese cultural elements. The academy spares no effort in realizing the Chinese dream of the rejuvenation of the great nation of China.

Part 3 Etiquette Square and Dacheng Hall

On the front of left we can see а bronze bell - Sound of Metal.

On the front right is a drum - Sound of Jade.

The two tripods at the back of the square are Heavenly Curtain and Earthen Holder.

Dacheng hall isthe center of worshippingConfucius. All sides of the hall are in the form of Wudian, an ancient Chinese architecture in the supreme architectural form.

Part 4 The Meaning of Confucius

As far as we know, the excellent traditional Chinese culture is the "root" and "soul" of the Chinese nation.

The Confucius Academy in Guizhou is a place for disseminating excellent traditional culture. In terms of functional positioning and design, it always adheres to the guiding principle of "innovative transformation and innovative development", and takes "promoting Chinese excellent traditional culture and cultivating and practicing socialist core values" as the goal and enriches its content construction year by year.

Profound cultivation and rich cultural connotations enable students to carry forward Chinese traditional culture and reflect the value of life,and effectively promotethe innovative development of Chinese excellent traditional culture.
